Zinc Grounding Cells

INTRODUCTION

Zinc grounding cells provide positive, long-life protection wherever voltage must be limited to underground metallic system to reduce danger of stock or arcing and burning of insulated joints. The cells are available for two or four zinc anode units and the utilized zinc anodes are produced to conform to ASTM B-418 Type II .

APPLICATION

Typical grounding applications include pipelines, power stations, storage tanks, transmission line towers and cables. Zinc anodes should not be used in extremely alkaline (above 9.2pH), acidic (below 5pH), or high temperature (above 140F) environment.

FEATURE

  • Two or four anode units available

  • Pre-packaged for easy installation in cardboard tube

  • 1.4"x1.4"x60" high-purity zinc anode separated by 1" pacers and tape wrapped

  • Low resistivity backfill: 75% gypsum, 20% bentonite, 5% sodium sulfate
  • Nominal resistance of two anode grounding unit when permeated by ground water is  in the order of 0.2 to 0.6 ohm

  • Four anode unit can be used to obtain 50% lower resistance against two anode unit

  • 3 meters of #6 AWG HMWPE cable is connected securely to each anode
